Is Life Coaching a Good Career?

Have you ever wondered about why there's so much sorrow in the world? Have you ever felt guilty about being a little more privileged than the others? Have you ever listened to a confused teenager and helped him out with a decision that could mold his future? Have you found peace in making someone else's life a little bit easier just by being there? You may not have realized it yet, but you have the makings of a life coach in you. You may have been told that before, but do you want to know if it is a good career option? Well, let's find out with some help from this Buzzle article, shall we?

Life Coaching: What it Involves

Life coaching is a quite a broad term if you look at it. On many occasions, life coaching can be interchanged with personal coaching. Which makes sense because you are helping them deal with their life, which is their own personal life. This 'life' could be almost any aspect. It could be the person's career, the social life, education, etc. Anything at all. Being a life coach involves a lot of qualities that are more inherent than acquired. Some of them have been mentioned below. If you think you possess these skills, and are willing to take it up as a career, there's nothing stopping you.

Communication

The most important quality that a good life coach has, is his ability to successfully communicate with the person in front of him. This communication is possible only if the person is a good listener. Being a life coach involves a lot of active Minibus Hire St Albans listening skills, which though mostly inherent, can be honed with proper training. Apart from listening, the coach must have the skill to comprehend and respond with suitable solutions, suggestions, etc. For this to be possible, the coach needs to have the ability to build and maintain a good rapport with the person. Build trust and confidence and your work is half done.

Motivation

Life coaching is all about putting the needs of the person before what is suitable for him. For instance, if you're coaching someone about his career and you know that he's not happy with his current job, even though he is very good at it, the 'right thing' to do would be to convince him to keep the job so that he can sustain himself. But that's not your job. You have to make sure that he is happy with what he is doing and guide him towards it. It is not about imposing decisions, it is about helping to find the person within the person, rather than alienating him. It is about enabling a positive change in a person, by making him reflect upon his being. Motivation towards inner happiness, through favorable changes in the external environment is what you have to aim at.

Objectivity

Being a life coach puts you at a high pedestal in the person's life. Through the course of personal coaching, you're bound to be told many things in confidence. Taking everything objectively and not using it against the person, but to the contrary, is what makes a good life coach. Being a non judgmental person, who will listen and help, is what people expect one to be.

Is It a Good Career?

If you think you have it in you to be selfless and help people around you to come up with solutions to their problems, and if you feel joy when you see that something you suggested or implied has made a change for the better in someone else's life, then you have your answer. However, everyone needs to earn their living. So, is it a good career right now? Not many would say so. Life coaching as a full-fledged career is still in its infant stages. Not many people are open to the idea of taking it up as a full-time career, for the simple reason that there is no current 'market' for it. People are more interested in the so-called allied fields like management and career counseling and hence, life coaching is yet to get a firm hold on the ground. That being said, there are many people who have left their high flying careers to become life coaches and they will all say that it is the best decision they have made. The level of inner peace and satisfaction that this career can give is for those who find happiness in others' happiness. So, the decision of becoming a life coach is entirely up to you. While it may not be the 'in' career right now, think about the future prospects that it holds. Think about the peace that it will bring you and make your decision accordingly.

Becoming a life coach is not really as easy and glamorous as this article makes it look. There is much more involved, that is up to the personality of the person. If you think you have what it takes to be one, and make a career out of it, then there's nothing more to be said.

Environmental Costs of Buying a Toyota Prius

Driving hybrid cars, like the Toyota Prius, seems like a viable way to reduce carbon emissions, but before going out to buy a Prius, it is crucial to analyze the true environmental impact of hybrid cars and the alternatives to hybrid vehicles.

Environmental Costs of a Prius

When analyzing the environmental costs of a car, the energy to plan, build, and transport the car must be taken into account, not just the car's miles per gallon figures. The Prius has two engines, gas and electric. The electric engine is made from nickel mined and smelted in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. From Ontario, the nickel is transported to Wales, UK to be refined, then shipped to China where it is made into nickel foam, and finally to Toyota's plant in Japan where the nickel is made into a hybrid battery.

James L. Martin, president of the senior advocacy group called the 60 Plus Organization, claims in his article "The Hidden Cost of Driving a Prius" the hybrid battery travels over 10,000 miles from start to finish, which entails major fuel costs and pollution from transportation.

In "Hybrid Batteries Q&A" published in Toyota's Hybrid Synergy Newsletter, Gary E. Smith, national service technology manager at Toyota Motor Sales, USA, says Toyota does have a recycling program in place that rewards dealers with a cash payment for shipping a hybrid battery to Toyota for recycling. The full battery, including the nickel, can be recycled. Since the Prius has only been on the market for nine years, not many batteries have reached their full lifespan to test the recycling program.

Eco-Friendly Driving without a Hybrid

Rather than buying a new Prius as a second car or trading in your car, a more environmentally friendly option is to drive a car for its full lifespan. Andrew Davis of the Environmental Transport Association, a UK company that researches environmental transport issues, was quoted in Leo Hickman's February, 2006 article "Should I...buy a new or second hand car," published in the Guardian saying "...the length of time a car is kept is crucial. Buying a new car and keeping it for its entire life is more environmentally friendly than buying a one-year-old car every year."

Hybrids vs. Clean Diesel

Old diesel cars used fuel high in sulfur and their engines polluted more than gas engines. New clean diesel engines and clean diesel fuel "mean that diesels will be allowed to emit no more pollution than gasoline-powered vehicles," according to Tom and Ray Magliozzi in their 2007 Car Talk article "New Clean Diesel Fuel on Sale Now." The Magliozzi brothers also note that "diesels are actually 20 to 40 percent more fuel efficient," than gas engines.

New clean diesel engines, which meet emissions standards across the United States, could be an alternative to hybrids in reducing carbon emissions. The Jetta TDI was named the "2009 Best Eco-Friendly Car" at Chicago's Motor Week and "2009 Green Car of the Year" by Green Car Journal.

For the same price as a Prius, the Jetta TDI reportedly averages 40 mpg without car disposal Watford sacrificing performance. The editors of Green Car Journal tested the Jetta TDI and were able to reach over 50 mpg by using basic fuel maximizing driving techniques.

The Jetta TDI sedan and wagon are both made in Germany and then transported to the U.S. Conventional lead/acid batteries used by clean diesels are simple and inexpensive to manufacture, do not require inputs to be shipped half way around the world, and 98 percent of lead/acid batteries are recycled according to Battery Council International statistics.

Diesel engines are known to last from 250,000 to 500,000 miles, about twice as long as a gas engine. This is environmentally friendly if owners drive their diesel for its full lifespan.

BMW is currently selling a diesel model of their 3 series, and Audi is bringing diesel models to the U.S. in late 2009.

The most environmentally conscious decision is to keep your current car for its full lifespan, drive less, and use public transportation when possible.

HONOLULU (Reuters) - The United States is scrapping plans for a Navy ship to join a fleet review in China after key ally, Japan, was not invited, U.S. officials said on Thursday, in a move that came just ahead of Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel's trip to Japan and China.

The United States had been invited to participate in the fleet review - essentially a parade of ships - as part of activities linked to the Western Pacific Naval Symposium, which is being held this month in Qingdao, an eastern port city.

The United States will still participate in the naval symposium and will observe the review, one official said.

"We're not going to put a ship in the actual parade. We'll observe the parade," the U.S. official told Reuters, speaking on condition of anonymity, adding the decision was taken last week and came after a request by ally Japan.

Japanese Defense Minister Itsunori Onodera told a news conference on Friday that Japan would take part in the regularly held naval symposium but confirmed that it had not been invited to the fleet review.

"Japan is responding calmly but it is unfortunate that China took such approach," he said.

The U.S. decision was another sign of troubled Sino-Japanese ties, chilled by a territorial dispute over a group of East China Sea islets.

It also shows the tricky balancing act facing Hagel over the next week as he moves to reassure Tokyo of Washington's commitment to its security while seeking better ties with Beijing. Hagel leaves on Friday on a trip to Japan, China and Mongolia.

China's territorial disputes with its neighbors were front and center for Hagel as he hosted talks in Hawaii with defense ministers from Southeast Asian nations, grappling with assertive Chinese military moves in the South China Sea.

"I told the ministers that the United States is increasingly concerned about the instability arising from the territorial disputes in the South China Sea," Hagel said at a news conference, calling for all sides to avoid resorting to the "threat of force, or intimidation, or coercion."

The U.S. State Department has accused China's coastguard of harassment of Philippine vessels and called its attempt on Saturday to block a Philippine resupply mission to the Second Thomas Shoal, a disputed atoll, provocative and destabilizing.

Earlier on Thursday, Daniel Russel, President Barack Obama's diplomatic point man for East Asia, said that while the United States did not take a position on rival territorial claims in East Asia, China should be in no doubt about Washington's resolve to defend its allies if necessary.

Hagel said he would speak candidly and directly with officials from China when he travels to Beijing next week and would encourage "responsible behavior."

"The South China Sea, East China Sea - we have differences there. We talk about those differences," Hagel said as he wrapped up three days of informal talks with skip hire Welwyn Garden City ministers from the 10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

The ASEAN meeting as well as other steps to enhance the U.S. military's posture in the Asia-Pacific have been viewed suspiciously by Beijing, which is hiking military spending. But Hagel rejected the idea that such moves were to counter China.

"This visit was not a visit to contain China," Hagel said.

"This area represents tremendous opportunities. The three largest economies in the world are here in the Asia-Pacific - China, Japan and the United States."

Hagel said he would encourage China to follow international norms and looked forward to a chance to "sit down, close the door, and talk very clearly and directly to our friends."

"And I consider the Chinese as friends. We have differences. We are competitors. We disagree in areas. But we're certainly not enemies," Hagel said. "We're doing a lot of things together where we can find some common interests."

U.S. President Barack Obama is due to visit Japan, South Korea, Malaysia and the Philippines from April 22.
